PAYMENT
All payments are invoiced through Paypal. A $100 deposit is required upon scheduling. Half of the balance is due on the day the edits are scheduled to begin, with the remaining amount due once the edits are completed.
THE PROCESS
Upon receiving your request, I will complete the sample edit and return it to you within 48 hours. I’ll provide you with a quote for the total cost of the edits and determine a start date based on your desired time slot or deadline and my availability. Once we have scheduled the edits, I will invoice you for the deposit to hold your spot. Half of the balance will be due on the start date of your edits. When the edits are completed, and after I’ve received the remaining balance, I will return the manuscript, complete with edits and any pertinent notes. Afterward, I will remain available to clarify any changes or answer any questions.
FORMAT
Times New Roman, 12 font size, and a 1.5 line spacing. I will change the formatting if I need to.
MANUSCRIPT DELIVERY
Ideally, you should email me your manuscript the day before the edits are scheduled to begin. If this is not possible, please deliver the manuscript to me as early in the morning as you can. If I receive the manuscript too late in the day, a late fee may be applied to the invoice.
DEADLINES
To ensure you do not miss any deadlines, please make sure you note the turnaround time of each service and schedule your edits accordingly, especially if your book is available for pre-order. Planning in advance to meet such deadlines is your responsibility.
If you fail to meet your delivery date for the edits without giving adequate notice, I will offer that spot to another client.
A fee of $25 per day (for a maximum of 2 days) will be added to your order if you miss the delivery date. If you miss the delivery date by more than 2 days, I will have to reschedule the edits. Additional fees are never invoiced without first discussing the issue.
CANCELLATION POLICY
The $100 deposit will not be refunded if you cancel the scheduled edits with only 7 days’ notice. With 14 days’ notice, half the deposit ($50) will be refunded. If you cancel the edits with more than 14 days’ notice, $75 will be refunded.
If you decide to cancel, be sure to email me, Elizabeth, at arrowheadediting [AT] gmail [DOT] com as soon as possible with the subject line: CANCELLATION REQUEST.
RESCHEDULING
If you realize you cannot meet your deadline, let me know as soon as possible so we can work something out.
If you reschedule the edits with less than 7 days’ notice, or if I’m forced to reschedule the edits because you failed to meet the delivery date, I will require another $100 deposit.
To avoid this, please plan accordingly.
EDITOR TERMS
If your manuscript needs additional editing beyond the requested service (for example, heavy editing instead of a proofread), I will contact you to discuss the issue and how to proceed. During this time, work will stop. To avoid this, please make sure your novel is ready for the level of editing you requested and that the sample edit adequately reflects the overall condition of your manuscript.
If I need to cancel the scheduled edits for personal reasons, you will receive a refund for the unedited portion of your manuscript, and I will hand over the edits.
I reserve the right to decline any manuscript.
I do not accept books that endorse discrimination, books that contain explicit sexual content (such as erotica), non-fiction, children’s books, or books with heavy religious biases. If the book contains material with which I am uncomfortable, I reserve the right to skip that portion of the book.
In regards to books that weren’t edited through Arrowhead Editing: If your book was previously published and you’re getting it re-edited or proofread due to negative reviews, I request that my name and the Arrowhead Editing name not be affiliated with the published work in any way once it is re-uploaded or republished.
Though sentences will be rewritten for clarity (for the Line Editing service), no new, original material will be written for you. My job is to polish the words you give me. Certain errors (such as repeated actions, continuity errors, and showing vs telling) will require additional writing and problem-solving on the author’s part. All I can do is point out the errors and offer suggestions where I can. But if you have any questions, I’m always more than happy to help!
If you want detailed feedback on characters, plot, dialogue, themes, and other big-picture elements, I suggest hiring a developmental editor. I’m happy to give my opinion on certain points if you ask for it, but my focus is on sentence-level editing.
Though I hope you will pick up new techniques and learn something new during the editing process, it is not meant to teach you how to write; as an editor, my job is to correct the manuscript to the best of my abilities. There is an expectation that the writer has taken time to learn their craft and the basics of writing prior to hiring an editor.
Though facts will be checked and corrected where there are more overt errors, I assume the author is knowledgeable about the topic he/she has chosen to write about and has conducted the necessary research to realistically and correctly represent a setting, situation, subject, or profession.
Depending on the manuscript’s condition upon delivery, the author may need a second editing pass (such as copyediting) or a professional proofread to ensure no errors were missed or introduced by either party. It is the author’s responsibility to ensure that their manuscript is in the best condition possible prior to publishing.
READING FEE
A reading fee of 0.004 / word will be added to the total cost of the edits if you require me to read previous books in a series or read additional material in preparation to edit your book. The author must provide me with those books or additional texts, or the purchase price will be added to the final cost of the edits.
Additional time will also have to be scheduled, extending the estimated delivery time of the edits. Approximately 1 day is required per every 20,000 words.
SCHEDULING & SAMPLES
You have two days to schedule your manuscript with me once I return the sample edit. After two days, the spot will be considered open again.
Unless you expressly confirm you would like to schedule your manuscript with me and pay the deposit to secure your spot, the slot will remain open.
My availability can be found here.
LIABILITY
By sending Arrowhead Editing your manuscript, you certify that you are the author or legal representative of the attached material and own all rights, or have been given the rights, to said material. You also certify that the content contained within the attached material is your original work.
I can’t guarantee you will agree with all the edits I make to your manuscript. Whether you accept or reject the changes, the quoted price remains the same and the transaction remains final.
I also can’t guarantee your manuscript will be 100% error-free. Moderate to heavy editing will require a proofread to ensure no errors were missed or introduced. As the author and publisher, it is your responsibility to ensure the manuscript is in the best possible condition prior to publishing.
ADDITIONAL TERMS
The minimum cost, regardless of word count, is $100 for all manuscripts, including short stories.
A PayPal fee will be added to the final invoice. The fee is calculated using http://thefeecalculator.com.
5% GST will be added to Canadian orders.
